Wake up Sid!

Time:5:32 pm Date: Oct 02, 2009

Wake up and smell the coffee dude! Here is a film about Humtum.Atleast that's what Ayan Mukherji, the director of the film claims it to be.Ayan is a new face in the film industry, but he is the talk of the town today for better reasons.Years ago Dil Chahthahe broke the cliche of Indian cinema in ways innumerable. This friday is worth a mention because Ayan has come up with a subtle ,sensitive subject that suites the urbane sensibilities. It is a film the young can relate to,Old can laugh at.

The story line is simple with very little drama.Sid(Ranbir Kapoor) is a pampered boy.Has no aim, ambition. He escapes from his father's business, leaves for Mumbai to become a photographer.Aisha(Konkana Sen Sharma) on the other hand is a Bengali journalist .She comes to Mumbai to persue her career in writing.Opposites attract.Sid breathes life into Aisha.Aisha wakes him up to his resposibilitites.

That sounds a little familiar ,isn't it?Yea it bears resemblance to Lakshya. The hero of the film Ranbir performed exceptionally well. His innocence and charm is a mixture of beautiful emotions. He brings it without much effort.Konkana played a journo,an intellect so often. She doesn't typecast it though. There is more of Aisha than a writer to her character. The chemistry between Ranbir and Konkana is labelled 'unconventional'.But watch the movie to know how conventional the story is and how well Konkana &Ranbir fit in, inspite of flat dialogues, lengthy scenes.Technical work is fabulous, notice the cinematography, art direction, sound design and songs.Characterisaion is blamed for lack of depth.Whatever, blame the direciton, rave about the characterisation, the film is true to life.Watch it.You wouldn't regret it.
